Our New (Old!!) School

Wow, what a start to term 3. We started back after Christmas, excited to see our friends again, and also saw our lovely new school. We were shown around and were so excited and impressed. Mums and dads will be impressed when they see it aswell. We have a lovely new classroom that looks new and fresh, much better than our old classroom, and Miss Breslin is especially happy with her new teaching wall.

We are now looking forward to doing our secret JtL topic, and changing how our classroom looks. We have already started and Miss Breslin is so impressed with how much we already know and the fabulous ideas that we have had about how we can change our classroom. She can't wait to see how our ideas tranform our classroom.

Miss Breslin and the other P2 teachers are arranging a trip that is about our topic, where will it be!!!

We have already been busy, revising our maths and we are now learning about 1/2s and 1/4s. Miss Breslin is pleased with how hard we are working and we are going to keep working this hard. We are looking forward to doing lots of co-op group tasks.

We are looking forward to our open evening and showing our mums and dads our new school.

The Run Up To Christmas

What a busy term, P2 have had. We have been preparing for the Christmas Nativity, learning speaking parts and the lyrics to 8 songs. We worked with primary 1 and the other primary 2 classes to put on a fabulous show for our parents. The last performance was today and Miss Breslin was extremelly proud of us.

We all got to see the Baldy Bain panto. This was our end of term reward and we had so much fun booing the baddie and helping all the others. Miss Breslin was not surprised at how loudly we could shout!

We still have our Christmas party to look forward to, we can't wait to dance and see Santa.

In between all our rehearsals for the nativity, we have been doing our maths and language work. We have been looking at numbers to 100, area of shapes, rounding to the nearest 10 and odd and even numbers. We have been reading Six Dinner Sid and doing lots of writing about it, describing Sid and retelling the story. We made bar graphs and a venn diagram about Sid and his life. We enjoyed doing work about Six Dinner Sid.

We have also been learning about Martin Luther King and his dream for everybody to be treated fairly. We worked in our co-op groups to create posters showing what our dreams are for this.

We have had a fabulous term and are excited about Christmas. After Christmas, we are back in our Ard Road building. We can't wait to see how fantastic the school looks and exploring it!!

The End of an Exciting Term

It is now the end of term 1 and Primary 2a have had so much fun. We have been enjoying working in our co-op teams in maths, language and our topics. We did a lot of co-op learning in our topic - Caring and Sharing. We learned about our rights as children, how we help elderly people and those with additional needs. Aswell as that, we looked at people who help us, their jobs, uniforms and the equipment they use. We really enjoyed this topic and learned a lot.

We are now looking at the Sun, Moon and Stars in our science topic, amazing Miss Breslin with how much we already know and how keen we are (some went home and did some research at home - WOW!) We learned about shadows and how to make shadow puppets, aswell as looking at a planetarium to see some of our stars.

We are working hard in maths and language, working on numbers up to 100. In language we are doing a lot of writing and are progressing well in our reading.

Thursday 13 October was the exciting culmination of football training from Ross, who works for St Mirren. Every Tuesday, Ross came in and taught us the skills used and needed by professional football players. We have had so much fun doing this. This resulted in us going to St Mirren football stadium and getting a tour of the trophy room and dressing room. we saw all the trophies St Mirren have won! We then had the opportunity to play on the football pitch. We had so much fun, and impressed the football coaches with our skills.

We have really earned our end of term reward and will enjoy our DVD afternoon.

Term 1 in Primary 2a

We started P2a in August and met our new teacher Miss Breslin. She took us on a really exciting bear hunt to find our new class friend. We found him and named him Nathan. Some of us have been really lucky and we have been able to take him home for the weekend. The rest of us are really looking forward to getting the chance to take him home. We wrote to Nathan, making a class book, telling him about ourselves and we also wrote about what Nathan was like.

We also learned about The Gruffalo and drew him. We retold the story in our own words. Miss Breslin was very impressed. We showed good recall skills and were able to notice the rhyming words.

We have been doing addition and subtraction aswell as money in maths. We are working really hard.

For our Caring and Helping Topic, we have been learning about Rights and Responsibilities. We have been finding out about the rights of the child and the UN Conventions of the Right of the Child. We know that to have our rights we also have responsibilities. From this, we made a class charter that shows our rights and our responsibilities in making sure we meet these rights. We have also been learning about helping others, especially pensioners. We have impressed Miss Breslin with how much we know and how keen we are to learn.

After our topic we will be learning about the Sun, Moon and Stars in Science and Harvest in RME. We can't wait to find out what we will learn in these new topics.

We have become part of Co-op teams, working with our group to ensure we complete a jobsuccessfully. We take on roles in these tasks. The roles are - time keeper, materials manager, air traffic controller and encourager. We are going to keep using these roles and become even better at them.

Term 4

We have all enjoyed our holidays but we are really looking forward to term 4. We know that we are going to learn lots of interesting new things. Our new topic is going to be The Seaside. We are going to learn about the environment at the seaside and what animals and plants live there. Most of our writing is going to be linked to our topic. Our school trip this term is going to be to Lunderston bay. We cant wait. In science we are going to be learning about forces. We hope we will be doing lots of experiments just like scientists in their laboratories. In maths we are going to be learning to do multiplication sums. We think this might be a bit tricky but we know that this is something that the children in primary 3 can do so we want to try our best. Open Evening

We are so glad that you all made it to our fantastic open evening. We know that everyone who did had a lovely time. We are glad that you appreciated all our hard work in turning our class into a dinosaur museum. What was your favourite thing? Everyone in our class liked something different. Don't forget that as well as doing our dinosaur topic we were still having to work hard doing our maths and PE. It was tough but we all enjoyed working hard. We have very exciting news. Professor Digsby has sent us a dinosaur egg and set us the challenge of transforming our class room into a museum all about dinosaurs. We are very excited about this. We have lots of questions about dinosaurs. We have also been learning a lot at maths time. We have been working with halves and quarters. It was tricky at first but we are getting much better. We have also been learning a lot about being healthy with Miss Burns. We were working with lots of delicious fruits. Do you like our pictures? We are still really enjoying our time in the new building. In the last few weeks we have been scientists carrying out experiments in order to find out about the Earth,moon and stars. We have been finding out why is gets dark at night and colder in the winter. We have also learned new words such as orbit and constellation. We are learning lots and having great fun. We still have lots that we want to find out about. We are really excited to be back after our holidays. Our new class is brilliant, it is much bigger than before. This means that we have room to do things that we couldn't before. We are enjoying our new dressing up corner. We have started work on our new topic Harvest. We have been working very hard. We also wrote our own spooky halloween poem.

We are all glad to back at Kirklandneuk after our summer holiday. We have had a very busy time since we came back. Mr Higgins and Miss Fulton have been teaching us a lot of interesting things about pets. We have also been doing lots of work about The Gruffalo and Six Dinner Sid.
We also have a new friend in our class. We named him Fudge. Fudge likes to sit with quiet workers. He also might be coming home with us at the weekend.

Seaside topic

We are enjoying learning about the seaside. We have decorated a seaside wall with symmetricla shorts and tshirts, wow word pictures and creative seaside creatures. We have already written some fantastic seaside stories, postcards and poems and look forward to more wonderful writing. We made a beautiful seaside landscape picture with art materials of our choice.

We have begun testing materials for our seaside technology project. Look at the photos - can you guess what we are going to design?

Dinosaur World

We had a fabulous Open Evening to show off all of our great work during our Joyning the Learning topic Dinosaurs. We have all worked so hard; producing our very best work for display and learning lots of interesting new facts.We made some great games for our p6 friends and then our parents to play and learn.

Health Month

We enjoyed February health month, thinking about physical health. We loved the energetic aerobic workouts in the playground and even decided to show off some of our new moves in our PE warm ups. We really enjoyed learning to play curling with Iain Armour. We also kept fit and healthy with our sponsored spring walk. We tried to count our steps on our sponsored walk. We managed to count over 600 steps but then became more interested in looking for signs of spring in the park and then got a bit muddled and lost count. We spotted some beautiful crocuses beginning to sprout

We have continued our link with Mary Russell School and some of us have now visited their school and have taken part in outdoor learning, poster making and art work linked to our topic.

We have started a new and very exciting topic this term! We are learning all about dinosaurs. It is going to be very busy as we have great plans for fact finding, writing and creating. We will invite our family to visit at the end of term so we don't want to spoil the surprise!

Our friends from Mary Russell School

We have made some great new friends. For four weeks Primary 3 from Mary Russell school in Paisley came to visit our class. We worked together on active learning. The children came to us on a Thursday morning with their teacher and their nursery officer. We all joined in with language activities; we especially enjoyed telling stories with the puppets and being creative at the writing table. At playtime we all played together in the playground. After playtime we worked together with maths activities. Both our classes are working on the same topic this term and we have really enjoyed the activities involved. Everyone in our class has been very welcoming to our visitors, we have been sharing and working together.

We look forward to being able to go and visit their class in the future where we are going to be undertaking dinosaur activities.

Science Challenge

We enjoyed working cooperatively with a partner on a science challenge to make a model to show that the earth moves around the sun. Some of us even managed to add a moving moon to show that the moon moves around the earth. We learned that it takes one month for the moon to go around the earth. It takes one year for the earth to go around the sun. We also learned that the earth spins around which gives us day and night.

We have really enjoyed our topic this term. As we were learning all about seasons, earth, moon and sun in science, we decided to link our topic to space. We had a partner challenge to make a rocket from household junk. We have written wonderful story books about our adventures in our home made rocket to the silver planet. We created interesting aliens to join us on an adventure.

In science we learned that the earth spins. When it is facing the sun we have daylight when our countries are away from the sun it is night time. We enjoyed a cooperative challenge to make a model which shows that the earth turns to make day and night. Some of us were very clever and tried to add a moon spinning around the earth.

Scotland Homecoming Week

We enjoyed learning lots about Scotland. On Monday we played Scottish games at PE. That afternoon we looked at a map of Scotland and found places that we know. On Tuesday Miss Kingsley very kindly prepared traditional Scottish food for us to taste. Most dishes got a huge thumbs up but the haggis had a mix of opinion. We enjoyed listening to “Happy Birthday” song in Gaelic and even managed to sing along.On Wednesday we designed and created our own tartan by weaving. On
Thursday we enjoyed hearing Miss Britton trying to read some stories and poems in traditional scots tongue. On Friday we enjoyed primary 3's Homecoming assembly and then met room 7 at PE to learn some Scottish ceildh dancing.

Gladigator Fun

On Friday 27th November Gladigator came to visit. The Dental Nurse talked to us about the correct way to brush our teeth. We learned that we should brush without water and should not rinse our mouths afterwards this will keep all the flouride in our mouths and help our teeth. Gladigator came to show us how to brush in small circles then the fun began.

We had a fun and interesting visitor in class. Soozy introduced some interesting smells using a variety of herbs, spices and seeds. We even tasted what looked like a twig but was actually liquorice root. In the olden days our grand parents, or great grandparents, would buy this to suck instead of sweeties.

Soozy then halped us to make beautiful textured pictures using the spices. Our classroom still smells wonderful!

We have enjoyed the topic about the book Six Dinner Sid by Senga Moore. The story of the naughty cat who enjoyed six dinners by having six different owners in the one street encouraged lots of good writing and art work.

Lots of us received a certificate from Mrs Wieland for excellent behaviour. Our whole class were so well behaved that we all got to the end of term reward disco. Fantastic!

We have settled well into the class and worked well together to creats a set of class rules. We know how to be a Quality Line, Quality Audience, Quality Worktime and Quality Groupwork. Miss Britton took some photos of each of these.

Hunterian Museum

Last week Primary 2 visited the Hunterian Musuem to find out about dinosaurs. We were shown lots of different fossils and could name all the different parts of some dinosaurs. At the end we made our own fossils that we can take home at the end of our topic. We are looking forward to showing our parents all the hard work we have put into our dinosaur topic.

Primary 2 are currently working very hard on learning their songs for the Nativity concert they will be performing in three weeks time. We have some angelic singers, pumping percussionists and beguiling narrators to wow the audience!
